The last prattle for 2009 PDF Print E-mail
Written by Steve Tester
Saturday, 12 December 2009

This little prattle is a follow up on the December one,  to follow up on the result, and some other things that got missed on the night.

First off, the attendance. I think we did better than 50% of the members, so people do care about our future. And you all listened to the presentation by Pat Meehan, who probably knows more about what is happening than anybody, but still doesn't have all the answers, as things are still evolving. I was particularly impressed with the questions Pat got asked. That said, I think the VARMS plan is now set in place, and we can get set to and make our little patch work. And yes, like marriage, it may take a little work before we are happy with it.

The plan from here is to get a tempery runway working, then get a proper one graded beside it, hopefully both before Christmas, then we can have some more working bee's to clean it up of rocks and other lumpy things. I'm guessing it will not be operational until next spring.  At this stage I'm not sure how we are going to do the glider thingy. I'm not seeing how cars can "service" the glider field, so it may all be done with some hand trolley's (Any suggestions ). Having said that, the glider operations will be much closer to the fence, so it my all be OK.

The plan for the new shed... Still in the planning stages, but it's looking like a 12mx 8mtr "American Barn", with a 4mtr verandah out front. Some of the variables are dictated by cost, and some by Knox. I would like to see a concrete floor, and insulation from inception, as the are not easy things to add later.  Power and water will come later, as will our own table and chairs, work benches, fridge and BBQ. All this is now do-able, the big variable is money.  Here is how I'm hearing it... This is guide only... no fixed quotes

  • Shed Kit    $13,000
  • concrete floor   #5000
  • insulation    $1500
  • windows  $600
  • upgrades on doors and security $500
  • so taking off the Knox grant it may cost us $10,000.

Dress this up with some good  signage, a garden of roses around it to foil the graffiti bandits, some vines along the fences to hide them, some viewing areas, some shade cloth..............

man are we going to have a nice flying field

And finally, a big thank you to those that made Friday Night happen, especially the cooks Ian and Brian, and off course, you the members for turning up

Have a safe and Happy Christmas

 See you all in 2010

 Cheers

 Col
